Everything you need to know about Googled Screened

There are loads of dodgy business websites floating around Google. Your shady neighbour that tries to sell you clothes out of his car boot? Yup, he’s on Google. That guy you met at a service station who offered you free dental work? He’s on Google too. Anyone can list their business on Google. But that doesn’t mean that they’re any good.

So how can you sort out the riff-raff from reputable companies? Introducing Google Screened – Google’s answer to qualifying credible businesses.

What’s Google Screened, we hear you ask. Read on to find out.

What is Google Screened?

Google Screened is a new feature for Local Service Ads (LSA). These are the ads that appear at the very top of Google’s search results and only pop up for customers in your area.

You may have noticed a cute green tick next to these ads – that’s Googled Screened. A little badge that shows potential customers that Google has assessed a business in an extensive screening process. For those who haven’t seen it, it looks like this:

So what’s the point of this tiny tick? It’s for the peace of mind of your customers. By having the green tick by your business name, your buyers know that you’re trustworthy, dependable, and in no way bogus.

That small tick can boost your credibility, generate more leads, and attract more clients. Win-win!

Can I have a Google Screened badge?

Having a Google Screened badge sounds awesome, right? You must be champing at the bit to get one.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Google Screened isn’t available to all businesses – yet. It’s currently aimed at helping professional business firms, such as:

  • Real estate agents
  • Law attorneys
  • Financial planners

But don’t despair just yet. Google is constantly updating and revising its processes all the time. Just because it’s not available to everyone right now doesn’t mean it won’t be in the future. So keep your fingers crossed.
For those who aren’t lawyers or accountants, invest in Pay Per Click (PPC) ads. That way, your ads will still be at the top of Google search. You just won’t have that adorable green tick next to your name.

How can I get Google Screened?

Google isn’t giving out these ticks all willy-nilly. There are some pretty strict guidelines you’ve got to follow before your business is granted a Google Screened badge.

Firstly, your company must pass a business-level background check. And don’t think you’ve slipped by unnoticed – as the business owner, you’ll need a background check too. In some cases, your employees will also be investigated.

Then you’ll need to go through any necessary license and insurance checks based on your industry. The process can be a lengthy one, so be prepared for some delays.

And finally, your business must maintain a three or higher star rating on Google.
