Once upon a time, your website was the place to be. Everyone wanted to sign up on your site – traffic was flowing, and every page had visitors.
Suddenly it stopped. No one cared about your website anymore. What happened?
Take a look at your old website. A real, good, look. What SEO techniques are you using? The same ones from the last century?
Get with the program – it’s 2020, which means more advanced SEO strategies need to be in play.
Read on to discover four SEO techniques you need to know in 2020.
Why is SEO important?
Search Engine Optimisation, or SEO, refers to the method used to increase a website’s position on a search engine results page. These engines, such as Google, can identify all the essential information the user has searched for and can rank them in order of relevance.
In a nutshell, the pages listed at the top get higher traffic. The websites below don’t get a chance. So you want first off the rank.
So what SEO techniques will help you get on top?
Get to know your users
Take time to analyse your website traffic. Are people visiting your site just to bounce off again? Or are they spending a lot of time on your site, but not buying?
If that’s the case, you’ll need to know why. Perhaps the loading time is too slow. Or maybe your copy needs tweaking.
The easiest way to find out is by simply asking. Use tools like SurveyMonkey or Hotjar to create online surveys for your site. That way, you can understand what is turning people off your site and change your tactic accordingly.
Flesh out your most popular pages
Are some pages on your website more popular than others? Great – use that to your advantage to improve your SEO.
Look at the key ranking words from your most popular pages. Search for them in an online tool like Ubersuggest. This will show you other high-performing words or phrases linked to your keywords.
How about you have a pool of fantastic keywords, and weave them into the copy of your popular pages. It may make your page longer, but your SEO will go through the roof!
…And delete those old pages
Oh, and those old, sad, unpopular pages? Delete them. You don’t need that negativity in your life. And it will draw more visitors to the other fleshed out pages.
Add more internal links
But what if you can’t bear to delete your work? Or if that page is essential to your website? *Sigh* Very well then.
The solution is simple – add internal links from your popular page to your less, visited page, and vice versa. Visitors then have the option of switching between pages with ease. Or come across information they wouldn’t have necessarily seen. You may not see instant results, but they will get there.
